Appendix 2 - Replacing a Failed Drive
Theonlinedriverecoveryoperationisdesignedtorecoverdriveswhileyoursystemremainsonlineand
withoutdisconnectingclients.Thissignificantlyimprovesworkflowbecauseclientmachinesdonotneedto
unmountworkspacesduringarepair.Whenyouperformanonlinedriverecoverypleaserememberthe
followingpoints:
Clientsthatare
notalreadyconnectedtotheMediaEnginewillnotbeabletoconnectuntilafterthe
onlinerepairiscomplete
Ifaclientdisconnectsduringtheonlinedriverepairitwillnotbeabletoreconnect
Clientswillbebrieflydeniedwriteaccessatsomepointduringonlinerepair
whiletheFileManager
servicelockstheDataDriveSetfromwritesinordertofinishtherepair
Anonlinedriverecoverywilltakelongertocompletethananofflinedriverecovery
TheofflinedriverecoveryoperationwilltaketheDataDriveSetofflineforthedurationoftherecovery.
This
willforceallclientstodisconnectbuttherecoverywillbecompletedmorerapidly.
Toperformadriverecovery,launchSetupManagerfromtheAvidUnitygroupintheStartmenuofthe
MediaEngine.Thenprocee dasfollowsreferringtoFig.16below:
1. Select“DataDriveSet”fromthe
“AvailableDriveGroups”window
2. Confirmthatthereisasparedriveofthesamesizeasthefaileddrive
3. Clicktoselectthedrivetobereplaced(Drive006,Disk15intheexamplebelow)
4. Holddown<Ctrl>andselectthesparedrivetouse(Disk1
intheexamplebelow)
5. Choose“RecoverFailedDataDrive”fromtheRecovermenu
